Its time for your featured crowdfunding project of the week! This is an article series in which we select the coolest crowdfunding campaigns from websites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo. We all know there are plenty of projects we would rather not waste our time with.

I must say this weeks featured crowdfunding project is about the coolest we have seen in a very long time. The Modobag is a luggage bag you can ride! Literally – you can hop on it and take it for a spin through the airport.

The suit case has 2,000 cubic inches of interior storing capacity and measures 22 x 9 x 14 inches, which means it doesnt need to be checked in. Once everything is packed, its simple to pull out the handle bars and jump right on top of it to take a ride.

Maximum speed is set to 8 miles per hour and it has a range of 6 miles (based on a 180-pound user). It is all powered by a "belt-driven, maintenance-free, high-torque 150 watt electric motor".

By the way, its battery can charge your gadgets. The Modobag comes equipped with two USB charging ports than will keep all your devices powered up. And this is no dumb riding bag, either. It actually has smart features that work with the companys official app. This application helps you locate the bag using GPS. Its also possible to set up proximity alerts for when you forget your bag or go to far from it.

Pretty amazing, right? I know I want to get one for myself, but lets not get too excited just yet. This thing looks expensive… and it is. The lowest you can get it for on Indiegogo is $995. That money is well worth it for someone who travels often, though.

It has reached and far surpassed its goal, so theres no need to worry. Shipping is estimated to start this January (2017), so get ready to ride right into your flight!

Google Play Services 8 4 SDK is available

We’re delighted to announce the availability of Google Play services 8.4. There’s a lot of new information to share with you about what’s available to you in this release.

Custom Email App Invites

App Invites is a technology that enables your users to share apps with people they know. In Google Play services 8.4 we’ve updated this to make it easier for them to share via email. Before this you could create a custom email that contained user defined text and an image, but now we’re allowing you to add content from the app directly into the message. It allows you to fully define the email body using HTML, and set the email subject line. So, for example, if you have a favorite cooking app that you want to share with your friends, your invite to use the app can include a favorite recipe from the app. They get the immediate benefit of being able to access the desired content, giving them a more informed choice about whether or not they decide to install the app to get richer and more content. Predicting User spend and churn in games

The Play Games Analytics developer experience is designed to enable game developers to better understand, manage, and optimize game experiences throughout the player lifecycle. With this in mind, we’ve extended the Player Stats API to help you better understand your players behavior, and based on this, entice them to stay in your game.

The churn prediction method will return data on the probability that the player will churn, i.e., stop playing the game. You can create content in response to this to entice them to stay in your game.

Additionally, the spend prediction method will return the probability that the player will spend something in the game. It’s up to you how to handle this data, but -- for example -- if there’s a low probability that the player will spend something, you could provide discounted in-app purchases or show ads.

Fused Location Provider Updates

The Fused Location Provider (FLP) in Google Play services provides location to your apps using a number of sensors, including GPS, WiFi and Cell Towers.

When desiring to save battery power, and using coarse updates, the FLP doesn’t use Global Positioning Services (GPS), and instead uses WiFi and Cell tower signals. In Google Play services 8.4, we have greatly improved how the FLP detects location from cell towers. Prior to this, we would get the location information relative to only the primary cell tower. Now, the FLP takes the primary tower and other towers nearby to provide a more accurate location. We’ve also improved location detection from WiFi access points, particularly in areas where GPS is not available -- such as indoors.

Maps API Improvements

Have you ever wished you could easily handle a tap on a suburb without having to add another layer on the map to intercept the taps? We’ve added an onClickListener for polygons, so you can easily add transparent polygons and intercept the taps directly. We’ve also added on click listeners to polylines and ground overlays.

Here’s how you can use a listener to detect a click on a polygon:

 map.setOnPolygonClickListener(new GoogleMap.OnPolygonClickListener() { @Override public void onPolygonClick(Polygon polygon) { ... } }); 

Info windows now also offer an OnInfoWindowCloseListener and an OnInfoWindowLongClickListener. The on close listener is particularly useful if you wish to zoom back out on the map after the user has looked at the detail associated with a particular marker.

 mMap.setOnInfoWindowLongClickListener(new GoogleMap.OnInfoWindowLongClickListener() {...});

Support for Aztec bar codes

In Google Play services 7.8, we launched Vision APIs that supported face and barcode detection. One bar code format we didn’t support was Aztec bar codes, so with Google Play services 8.4 we’ve now added support for these.

Applications using BarcodeDetector in its default configuration (no barcode format restrictions) will automatically start decoding AZTEC codes.

Background Beacon Scanning

With Google Play services 8.4, the Nearby Messages API now supports background scanning for Eddystone, the open beacon format from Google. With this update, your app can be woken up when a BLE beacon is sighted. Back in July, Google Play Services 7.8 introduced the Nearby Messages API with a simple publish-subscribe interface. In the case of beacons, developers publish content by adding attachments to beacon records using Proximity Beacon API. These attachments are served back to your app when Nearby sights a beacon of interest.

New methods that we’ve added include a subscribe method for background beacon subscriptions where BLE scans are triggered at screen-on events; an associated unsubscribe event; and the ability to handle intents that you get when the Nearby API calls back during a background subscription.

Fitness Platform HistoryApi Improvements

We now support consistent step counts across the Google Fit app, other fitness apps and Android Wear watch faces with the HistoryApi.readDailyTotal() method. We also have a new HistoryApi.updateData() method. This method allows you to update data in one API call without having to delete and insert with two calls.

Autocomplete functionality assists users by automatically completing the name and address of a place as they type. Google Maps is rolling out Wi Fi only mode and mass transit delay notifications to some users

A couple of very useful features have started rolling out to a few lucky Google Maps users in the last couple of days. If youve been following along with our APK Teardowns, you might remember sections covering notifications for mass transit delays and an option to restrict data usage to Wi-Fi only. If youve been eager to see either of these, now might be a good time to open up Maps and poke around.

CEO denies rumors that Cyanogen is shifting focus to apps

You might recall back in March when Cyanogen CEO Kirt McMaster claimed his company was going to, and I quote, "put a bullet through Googles head." Their goal is to create a version of Android free from the "tyranny" of Google, but before anyone could say viva la resistance, word came down the pipe that Cyanogen was having to axe a full fifth of their employees.

As we reported this weekend, multiple sources indicated that this brutally executed 20 percent reduction in staff didnt bode well for the future of Cyanogens OS game. The company reportedly had made the decision to "pivot" their profit-based operation to apps.

McMaster has taken social media today to refute these claims. "We are an OS company," the CEO proclaimed, "and our mission of creating an open Android stands." He confirmed the previously reported layoffs, explaining that "startups and disruption are brutal."

If Cyanogen is going forward with their OS ambitions, it will now be with a staff numbering barely over 100. Whether or not the company will be able to achieve the Google-aimed headshot theyre seeking remains unclear, but one thing is certain: the bravado that Kirt McMaster has become renowned for remains intact.

Koushs new screen sharing app Inkwire is available in beta on the Play Store

Koushik Dutta, a.k.a Koush, is one of Androids most popular developers. From the custom recovery ClockworkMod to ROM Manager, to Allcast, to Vysor, his apps are downloaded almost religiously amongst power users, developers, and tinkerers. In the last few hours, hes made a new app available in beta, named Inkwire.

Based on Koushs previous app, Vysor, which mirrors your Android devices screen on a computer, Inkwire goes one step further and shares the screen to another Android device, letting someone else help with a problem or issue, which could be especially useful for tech support workers or, as Koush says, independent app developers.

Original post, July 15: You may recognize the name Koushik Dutta – hes the developer behind Vysor, an app that lets you control your Android smartphone on a desktop, as well as other popular Android apps. And hes back again, this time with an app called Inkwire.

Vysor and Inkwire do similar tasks, but are different in significant ways. Before Vysor, apps that let you remotely access and control your smartphone required rooting, or the frame rates simply dropped to a point where even simple tasks like typing became torture.

Vysor, however, was one of the first to offer an intuitive and responsive experience. All you had to do was launch the Vysor extension on Chrome, connect and turn on USB debugging on your device, and you could control your phone with your mouse and keyboard. Simple as that.

Inkwire is set to give you the same easy method of remote access, except you dont need a desktop or ADB. According to Koush, Inkwire is "just plain old Android to Android screen sharing, without the cords." The app generates a code that is shared with another user to grant them access to your screen.

Since ADB is not required, you wont be able to control the remote users smartphone directly; however, Inkwire will let users draw over the shared screens to show where to touch. On top of that, Inkwire supports voice chat, which will no doubt facilitate communication between users.

If Inkwire is able to provide a smooth and intuitive but also secure experience, it may shift the paradigm of troubleshooting your Android device. No longer will you have to walk around your neighborhood, looking for a phone repair shop, as many things could be done virtually.

Although we dont know the official release date for the app just yet, Koush promises that the beta link is coming soon to this community page for Inkwire.
