Announcing the 2016 Android Experiments I O Challenge!

Last summer we launched Android Experiments: a showcase of creative Android projects, and an open invitation for all developers to submit their own experiments to the gallery. So far we’ve seen some amazing work from the developer community - from live wallpaper, to watch faces, to interesting hacks of the IOIO board - and we want to see more.

Today we announce the Android Experiments I/O Challenge: a chance for your experiment (and you) to go to I/O 2016!

From now through April 13, you can enter by submitting your experiments to the gallery. The top three winners of the contest will receive a trip to this year’s Google I/O, and the five runner-ups will get the new Nexus 6P.

So what makes a good Android Experiment? It’s a project that utilizes the unique capabilities of the Android platform in an innovative way. Here are a few suggestions:

• Creative uses of Android’s new or distinctive features
• Projects that explore how we interact with our devices, in small and big ways
• Unique visual aesthetics
• Open source projects that inspire other developers
• Surprise us - we want to see the amazing things you’re cooking up

Examen del Máster de Seguridad de la UEM 2016

Como viene siendo tradición, un año más he vuelto a "torturar" a mis alumn@s con un examen al final del módulo dedicado a la seguridad de las aplicaciones. No me gusta ser excesivamente maligno, así que más o menos pongo siempre los mismos exámenes pero cambiando las preguntas porque, en este módulo de 16 horas, yo quiero que se lleven claros algunos conceptos básicos fundamentales. Estas son las preguntas que les tocó responder ayer a última hora. Anímate a responderlas.

A ver si saco algo de tiempo para responderlas yo - y las del último examen que también las dejé sin responder - para que tengáis la información completa. Al final os dejo la lista de exámenes de años anteriores.

1.- Tu organización dispone de una aplicación web de cara a internet consistente en ofertar productos y servicios con pasarela de pago propia desarrollada para una plataforma Java utilizando tecnologías Linux. Los datos de registro de los clientes, así como los pedidos solicitados se almacenan en una base de datos MySQL de la empresa, gestionando todo el proceso a través de la lógica de negocio. ¿Qué mecanismos de protección consideras que deberían implantarse en cuanto a la arquitectura de servidores y servicios se refiere? Cita reglas generales de fortificación y algunas medias concretas que creas convenientes para implantar.

2.- Una aplicación web de una empresa proporciona un proceso de autenticación que sospechamos un tanto curioso. Al analizar el código fuente de la página, vemos que la aplicación utiliza para el proceso de autenticación un Applet de Java con extensión JAR. Tras probar varios intentos de inicio de sesión, detectamos que no se produce Post-Back al servidor. ¿Qué fallo de seguridad podría tener esta aplicación y cómo debería investigarse?

3.- En qué consiste un ataque de tipo SQL Injection inband a una aplicación web. Pon algún ejemplo para sacar la lista de usuarios Tabla_USERS[Campo_Login, Campo_Password] de una web en un entorno vulnerable.

4.- Describe en qué consisten los ataques de Time-Based Blind SQL Injection y con qué tipo de funciones o métodos pueden realizarse en los motores de base de datos SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle y Access.

5.- Describe con tus palabras en qué consisten los ataques de LFI y cómo los podrías descubrir en una aplicación web durante un proceso de auditoría.

6.- Una aplicación web en PHP con MySQL es vulnerable a SQL Injection. Se quiere extraer la versión de Mysql realizando un ataque de Blind SQL injection. Describe el proceso que habría que realizar.

7.- En una aplicación web, la aplicación autentica a los usuarios con un árbol LDAP, para ello, cada usuario tiene un atributo uid y un atributo password. El programador ha filtrado el * y utiliza la función crypt antes de usar la contraseña en una consulta AND LDAP como ésta.

V_username: valor de usuario introducido en la página web por el cliente.
V_passwd: valor de contraseña introducido en la página web por el cliente.
C_passwd =crypt(v_passwd)
Consulta que da acceso o no a la aplicación:
(&(uid=+v_username+)(password=+c_passwd+))
¿Con qué inyección LDAP conseguirías entrar si la se está utilizando un árbol LDAP basado en OpenLDAP?

8.- Como administrador del sistema de tu organización, una mañana monitorizas que el antivirus corporativo reporta un malware en un directorio local del servidor donde tu empresa tiene alojado el sitio web. El archivo en cuarentena es un fichero denominado C99.php. ¿Qué tipo de ataque estás sufriendo y qué fallo o fallos de seguridad se ha/n podido aprovechar?

9.- Describe un posible método para robar una cookie marcada como HTTP-Only con un ataque de XSS y describe en qué entornos funcionaría.

10.- Describe como se puede hacer un proceso de hijacking de sesión a un usuario de una red social en la que las cookies no vayan por HTTP-s si en la web no se ha descubierto ninguna vulnerabilidad de código (ni SQLi, ni XSS).

Eleven Paths Talks Ethical Hacking y Securmática 2016

Con el comienzo de la segunda quincena de Abril aprovecho para dejaros un pequeño calendario de cursos, eventos y actividades en las que nos vamos a ver envueltos, por si alguna de ellas fuera de vuestro interés. Como siempre, os dejo aquellas en las que participo yo, participa alguno de mis compañeros de Eleven Paths o Telefónica, o colaboramos desde 0xWord.

Esta es la pequeña lista de eventos y cursos que os dejo para lo que nos queda de mes por si alguna de ellas es de vuestro interés. Aquí van.

En estas dos semanas vamos a tener dos sesiones más dedicadas a hablar de tecnología a través de nuestra iniciativa Eleven Paths Talks. Como sabéis, son sesiones gratuitas que se imparten vía web los jueves a las 15:30 (GMT+2) para que todo el mundo pueda conectarse a un horario diurno.

Game developers get ready for our Developer Day at GDC 2016

Next week, we’ll be in San Francisco to host our annual Developer Day at the Game Developers Conference (GDC). AT T Q2 2016 earnings report up but not really

Every few months we get to see how companies are doing, and now its time to take a look at AT&Ts Q2 2016 earnings report. How is the 2nd largest USA cellular carrier doing this time around? Well, the numbers show good results, but things are still not looking as bright in some areas.

These make for impressive stats, especially in Mexico, where AT&T is shaking the industry.

Once you strip those 3 elements out of the equation, the numbers dont look as amazing. AT&T is said to have lost 180,000 postpaid US subscribers during said quarter. This is still an improvement over Q2 2015s 270,000 and Q1 2016s 363,000 lost subscribers, but that doesnt change the fact that numbers continue to decrease.

We are also noticing the results of AT&Ts efforts to bring more smartphones to prepaid carriers and focus less on feature phones. The company added 800,000 smartphones, while losing 600,000 basic feature phones.

But despite some discrepancies, AT&Ts plan seems to be working out.

Only time will tell how AT&T will do in the USA, in the long run, but their strategy has certainly changed and we can now put them in another category. It will be hard to compare AT&T to other carriers considering they are focusing more on prepaid and international services. They have acquired both Iusacell and Nextel in Mexico, bringing the game to a whole different level.

Download Samsung Galaxy S7 - SM-G930F  XXS1APG3 Firmware .

1- Extract (unzip) the firmware file

2- Download Odin v3.11.1

3- Extract Odin ZIP file

4- Open Odin v.3.11.1

5- Reboot Phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)

6- Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin

7- Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked

8- Click the start button, sit back and wait few minutes.

That’s it! Your Galaxy S7 - SM-G930F should now have Marshmallow 6.0.1 July security patch on your phone! Go to Settings > About phone to verify.

Motorola Moto G (2015)

The Moto G, one of the most beloved budget phones on the market, is now in its third iteration. This time around, the handset offers up a 1.4 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor and either 8 GB storage and 1 GB RAM, or 16 GB storage and 2 GB RAM. bother models include microSD support, a 13 MP rear cam, a 5 MP front cam, a 5-inch 720p LCD display, and a hefty 2470 mAh non-removable battery. While the Moto G has never been about flashy extras, this years model does introduce waterproofing and LTE to the mix.

For those that lust for customization, the Moto G also includes limited Moto Maker support. While this feature isnt as robust as youd find with the Moto X Style (Pure Edition), its still a great step in the right direction. As for software? The phone runs Lollipop out of the box, and it is likely only a matter of time before a Marshmallow upgrade makes its way into the hands of consumers.

There is one trick, though! The U.S. version doesnt have a dual SIM card slots. You will have to either find the right version elsewhere and have it imported… or you could skip this one and check out the other options.
