BlackBerry ‘Hamburg’ gets FCC certification possibly launching July 26

BlackBerry ‘Hamburg’ gets FCC certification possibly launching July 26

blackberry priv review aa (18 of 32)

The first of three rumored BlackBerry devices running Android has passed through the FCC, indicating it might not be far off from launch. The model number associated with the BlackBerry Hamburg – STH-100-2 – has passed through the FCC for radio certification and is rumored to be launching as soon as next week.

The BlackBerry Rome hasnt been seen at the FCC yet, but you can expect it not to be too far behind, especially if the pre-IFA launch date rumors pan out. The Hamburg filing also reveals TCL (owners of Alcatel) will produce the device, and it will have a 2,610 mAh battery (the same size as the Alcatel Idol 4s battery). Some are therefore speculating it will simply be a rebranded Idol 4, which would be immensely disappointing.

Other BlackBerry Hamburg specs in the filing include NFC, Bluetooth 4.2, microUSB (no Type-C here apparently), LTE bands 2, 7, 38, and 41, 3G and 2G and Wi-Fi ac. According to Bloomberg, BlackBerry CEO John Chen will discuss both devices during a live stream event on July 26.

BlackBerry CEO John Chen will reportedly discuss both devices during a live stream event on July 26.

Chen has previously noted that a mid-range, circa $350 BlackBerry device will be out before September and confirmed this week that he will discuss BlackBerrys new Android devices "in the next week or two".

The BlackBerry Hamburg is rumored to feature a 5.2-inch Full HD display, Snapdragon 615 chipset, 3 GB of RAM, 16 GB ROM, microSD expansion, 13 MP/8 MP camera setup and now "confirmed" 2,610 mAh battery. It is expected to launch running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

Whether BlackBerry will find greater success with a rebranded Alcatel handset (or two) is anybodys guess, but it will be a shame not to see another pure BB offering of the likes of the Priv. As niche and finicky as it is, it was definitely one of the more exciting and original phones to appear in recent times.

Would you buy a BB-branded Idol 4? What does BlackBerry need to do for an Android hit?

Best dual SIM Android phones July 2016

Best dual SIM Android phones July 2016

While many folks can get by with a single-SIM handset, theres something to be said about the flexibility that is afforded to you when you have a dual-SIM device. A dual-SIM setup allows you to not only potentially have two different phone numbers but you can also have one SIM for data, another SIM for calling and text, and you can more easily travel abroad without having to remove your primary SIM card.

  • Best cheap Android phones
  • Best Android phones
  • Best Android watches

Typically manufacturers do not make dual-SIM versions of all their phones, instead they usually create dual-SIM models for phones that are popular in international markets. Sorted by price, on this page is where you will find our list of the best dual-SIM Android phones currently available. We will keep this list up to date as new phones are released, and as always please share your thoughts on what you think the best dual sim Android phone is.

Editors note – We will be updating this list as more devices hit the market.
Update, July 2016: This month we removed the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 and OnePlus X to make room for the Moto G4 Plus and Alcatel Idol 4S.

Best phones under $200

Motorola Moto G (2015)

The Moto G, one of the most beloved budget phones on the market, is now in its third iteration. This time around, the handset offers up a 1.4 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor and either 8 GB storage and 1 GB RAM, or 16 GB storage and 2 GB RAM. bother models include microSD support, a 13 MP rear cam, a 5 MP front cam, a 5-inch 720p LCD display, and a hefty 2470 mAh non-removable battery. While the Moto G has never been about flashy extras, this years model does introduce waterproofing and LTE to the mix.

For those that lust for customization, the Moto G also includes limited Moto Maker support. While this feature isnt as robust as youd find with the Moto X Style (Pure Edition), its still a great step in the right direction. As for software? The phone runs Lollipop out of the box, and it is likely only a matter of time before a Marshmallow upgrade makes its way into the hands of consumers.

There is one trick, though! The U.S. version doesnt have a dual SIM card slots. You will have to either find the right version elsewhere and have it imported… or you could skip this one and check out the other options.

Specs

  • 5.0-inch LCD display with 720 x 1280 resolution, 294 ppi
  • 1.4 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor
  • 1/2 GB of RAM
  • 8/16 GB of on-board storage, microSD expansion up to 32 GB
  • 13 MP rear camera, 5 MP front camera
  • Non-removable 2470 mAh battery
  • Android 6.0 Marshmallow
  • 142.1 x 72.4 x 11.6 mm, 155 g
