Classic Google Maps No Longer Available
Classic Google Maps has been replaced by Google Maps Lite back in April, but there were a few URLs you could use to access it. Now they no longer work, so youll have to get used to the new interface or switch to a different service like Bing Maps or Here.com. There are still various sites that use features from the Classic Maps, including Googles own Map Maker.
Last week, I had to print some directions in Google Maps and I realized that the classic Google Maps had a much better printing feature. You could include a map for each step or add Street View imagery. The new Google Maps offers two options: print text only or print including maps. There are fewer maps included since directions are now grouped and you can no longer customize each step.

It also seems feasible since the OnePlus 3 can clearly handle up to 4A of current at 5V (dash charge) so in terms of hardware it should be able to handle 3A at 5V similarly to the Nexus 5X/6P via the standard USB-C spec.
It doesnt even seem to be able to handle 2.4A via a USB-A to USB-C cable, or even via a USB-C charger using a USB-C cable.
Is there some hardware or software limitation Im perhaps missing? If its a USB-C device it should be able to charge via the USB-C standard

Googles product listing ads are now available in mobile Google Image Search. Theyre placed above the list of image search results and look much like the shopping ads from web search. Google also shows a colorful list of related keywords you can add to your query: brands, colors, categories and more.
"Whether theyre looking for a new sofa or the perfect pair of earrings, people who search and shop on their smartphones at least once a week say that product images are the shopping feature they turn to most. And it turns out, the top questions Google Images users ask us are Whats the price of this?’ and ‘Where can I buy it?. Thats why we are introducing Shopping ads on image search," informs Google.

With the release of Google Play services 7.8, we announced the addition of new Mobile Vision APIs, which includes a new Face API that finds human faces in images and video better and faster than before. This API is also smarter at distinguishing faces at different orientations and with different facial features facial expressions.
Face Detection
Face Detection is a leap forward from the previous Android FaceDetector.Face API. It’s designed to better detect human faces in images and video for easier editing. It’s smart enough to detect faces even at different orientations -- so if your subject’s head is turned sideways, it can detect it. Specific landmarks can also be detected on faces, such as the eyes, the nose, and the edges of the lips.
| Important Note This is not a face recognition API. Instead, the new API simply detects areas in the image or video that are human faces. It also infers from changes in the position frame to frame that faces in consecutive frames of video are the same face. If a face leaves the field of view, and re-enters, it isn’t recognized as a previously detected face. |
Detecting a face
When the API detects a human face, it is returned as a Face object. The Face object provides the spatial data for the face so you can, for example, draw bounding rectangles around a face, or, if you use landmarks on the face, you can add features to the face in the correct place, such as giving a person a new hat.
getPosition()- Returns the top left coordinates of the area where a face was detectedgetWidth()- Returns the width of the area where a face was detectedgetHeight()- Returns the height of the area where a face was detectedgetId()- Returns an ID that the system associated with a detected face
Orientation
The Face API is smart enough to detect faces in multiple orientations. As the head is a solid object that is capable of moving and rotating around multiple axes, the view of a face in an image can vary wildly.
Here’s an example of a human face, instantly recognizable to a human, despite being oriented in greatly different ways:
The API is capable of detecting this as a face, even in the circumstances where as much as half of the facial data is missing, and the face is oriented at an angle, such as in the corners of the above image.
Here are the method calls available to a face object:
getEulerY()- Returns the rotation of the face around the vertical axis -- i.e. has the neck turned so that the face is looking left or right [The y degree in the above image]getEulerZ()- Returns the rotation of the face around the Z azis -- i.e. has the user tilted their neck to cock the head sideways [The r degree in the above image]
Landmarks
A landmark is a point of interest within a face. The API provides a getLandmarks() method which returns a List, where a Landmark object returns the coordinates of the landmark, where a landmark is one of the following: Bottom of mouth, left cheek, left ear, left ear tip, left eye, left mouth, base of nose, right cheek, right ear, right ear tip, right eye or right mouth.
Activity
In addition to detecting the landmark, the API offers the following function calls to allow you to smartly detect various facial states:
getIsLeftEyeOpenProbability()- Returns a value between 0 and 1, giving probability that the left eye is opengetIsRighteyeOpenProbability()- Same but for right eyegetIsSmilingProbability()- Returns a value between 0 and 1 giving a probability that the face is smiling
Thus, for example, you could write an app that only takes a photo when all of the subjects in the image are smiling.

The developers do an excellent job of keeping rosters current based on things like trades as well. Its a freemium game and definitely plays like one, but its still fun.

Archery Master 3D is one of only a handful of Archery games on mobile that are any good. It features over 100 levels for you to complete across four locations. The game play mechanics are simple to learn and the objectives change with each level. The only caveat is that the game is freemium and will require some grinding to upgrade your equipment. That annoyance aside, the game itself is pretty good.

FIFA 16 is the latest game in the FIFA franchise and its one of the most popular sports games available on mobile. Like most freemium sports games, this one combines actual soccer (football) game play along with a card collecting element. The idea is to build your ultimate team using the cards that you collect. The game has had its issues, especially on older devices, but it remains the most complete soccer game available to date. It has updated rosters, over 10000 players, and over 500 licensed teams.

Fishing games are wildly underappreciated on mobile because some of them are quite good. Fishing Hooks claim to fame are its above average graphics and simple game play. Youll toss your line out, catch fish, and then battle to bring them in. Its also one of the few freemium games that allows for offline play. Like most freemium games, this one requires a ton of grinding so dont be surprised if it gets repetitive after a while. Its a pretty fun game until that happens.
Golf Star

Golf Star is one of the better golf games available on Android. It includes a full career mode where youll engage in various tournaments and aim to complete missions and quests. Youll also have access to a couple of online multiplayer modes, including one vs one golfing or a game of skins with up to four people. It also includes weekly tournaments to keep things interesting and a guild system so you can keep in touch with friends. Its a freemium game with all of the same freemium pitfalls so do beware of that.
Homerun Battle 2

Homerun Battle 2 is a popular and highly rated baseball game. Its also one of the most simple. Your sole purpose in this game is to crush the most epic home runs that you can. It features a variety of game modes, including one-on-one duels, four player co-op missions, arcade mode, and even an training mode. Unlike most sports games, which focus on realism, this game embraces its cartoon nature by adding in a bunch of fictional stuff to make it more fun. The online play is excellent and this is definitely a cut above most freemium titles.
Madden NFL Mobile

Madden NFL Mobile is EA Sports NFL offering. Its updated yearly to include the latest rosters from every NFL team and you wont have to install any additional apps. Like most, this is a card-collecting title mixed with an actual football game so you will see mechanics built-in for both. It has a 16-game season mode complete with the playoffs and the Super Bowl. In terms of sports games, this one is actually pretty good. It does have the same premium pitfalls as others but they dont seem to be as pervasive as youd normally see.
NBA Jam

NBA Jam is a cut above most other sports games and thats not just because its a port of an excellent 1990s sports game. This is an arcade-style basketball game where you and one AI teammate take on two opponents. The rules are loose which means you can shove people around to get the ball back. It features real players from all 30 NBA teams, local multiplayer, online multiplayer, and a classic campaign mode like you used to see on console. Its a pay-once game with no in-app purchases. Youll also find its a breath of fresh air compared to most freemium titles.
NBA Live

NBA Live is the officially licensed NBA game thats out now. Its what you would expect out of an NBA game that focuses on realistic graphics and game play. Like others, this has card-collecting mechanics so you can collect basketball players and then form teams with them. It features updated rosters for every NBA team along with a variety of game modes to keep things interesting. Included is a season mode as well as an online head-to-head mode where you can challenge other players. Its a freemium game and has all of the problems associated with it, but its actually pretty good for a mobile game.
NHL SuperCard

NHL SuperCard is a pure card collecting game. It features more than 450 currently active NHL players along with some legendary players for you to collect. The central premise is to collect players, build teams, and then duel those teams with others online. Unlike most sports games, this relies on a simulation system instead of actually playing the game with the players you have. You can power up your cards as well. Its not amazing, but its definitely not bad.
Patrick Kanes Hockey Classic

If you want to actually play some hockey, Patrick Kanes Hockey Classic is your best bet. This one is a flat out hockey game where you can play hockey as a member of Team USA or as Patrick Kane in the NHL. It features a variety of game modes, including Winter Classic, Face-Off Mode, Playoffs Mode, and Rivals Series. It says it has in-app purchases, but there doesnt seem to be any present when we looked. Its a pay-once game right now, but dont be shocked if they include IAPs in a future update.
Rapala Fishing

Rapala Fishing is a lot like the other fishing game on this list. It features realistic style graphics along with simple controls that will have you tossing your lure into the water in no time flat. It features various locations across North America where you can go to catch various types of fish. It boasts having no timers or energy so you can fish as long as you want to. There are also things like daily events that you can engage with to keep it interesting. The freemium strategy isnt overly aggressive and this is definitely a great way to kill a few minutes.
Ratrod Studio

Ratrod Studio is a development studio that makes a lot of sports games. Their collection includes a snowboarding game, two skateboarding games, and even a hockey fighting game. Each game has a Lite version that you can demo and see if you like it. Most of the games only cost $0.99 or $1.99 for the full versions. The games seem pretty good, especially the snowboarding games. Stick Sports

Stick Sports is another gaming studio that specializes in sports games. The selection isnt very large but contains a pretty decent tennis game with Stick Tennis Tour and the only good cricket game that would could find with Stick Cricket 1 and 2. There is also a soccer game if you want to check that out. The graphics are consistent between the games and the controls arent half bad either. The only real downside is that these games havent been updated since 2015.
True Skate

True Skate has been around for a long time and it remains one of the best skateboarding games available. It was among the first to use the disembodied skateboard and then using your fingers to move it and perform tricks. The main game features several skate parks that you can roll through and it has more for sale as in-app purchases. Its a fun game with one of the least offensive freemium strategies that weve seen because most of the IAPs are DLC which isnt that bad.
